Each of the co-principals of Carr & Associates is a Chartered Financial Analyst
with over 40 years of investment industry experience.
Michael F.
Carr, Chairman and Founder, received his B. B. A.
from the University of Notre Dame and an M. B. A. from New York
University. Immediately prior to founding the firm of Carr &
Associates, Inc. in 1989, Mr. Carr was a
Senior Vice President of Shearson Lehman Brothers (now Morgan Stanley Smith
Barney) where he was Chairman, Portfolio Manager and co-founder of Shearson
Convertible Securities Management and responsible for managing over $200
million in assets. He also served as Shearson's fixed income
strategist and was one of the pioneers of Bondstat, a proprietary
fixed-income credit analysis system used nationally by institutional
investors.
Mr. Carr is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA
Institute. His professional activities have included serving as a
member of the CFA Institute's Council of Examiners and as a member of its
Advocacy Committee and, for over 20 years as a New York Stock
Exchange-accredited Supervisory Analyst. A graduate of the
University of Notre Dame, Mr. Carr received his Masters of Business
Administration degree from New York University. He is also a
nationally known speaker and market commentator.
Marilyn V. Brown, President and Chief Investment Officer, was previously President of Lyon
Research Corp. which provided in-depth research on emerging industries to
institutional investment firms. In her 40+ year career in the
investment industry her areas of focus have included: portfolio
management, securities research and research management and
marketing. One of the pioneering women in the investment industry,
in the 1960's Ms. Brown developed and managed the institutional research
program at the firm that is now RBC Dain Rauscher. In the 1970's she
managed institutional equity research at Drexel Burnham as Vice President
and Assistant Director of Research.
She
also brings to Carr & Associates important corporate experience.
As Vice President - Corporate Communications of Becton Dickinson, the
multi-national health care company, Ms. Brown was a member of both its
Management and Operating Committees.
Ms. Brown is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA
Institute. She was the first Program Chairman of the CFA Institute's
predecessor association, the Financial Analysts Federation. She also
served as a member of the Federation's Accounting Committee and for many
years was a Supervisory Analyst accredited by the New York Stock
Exchange. A frequent speaker and author on investment issues and
formerly an Advisor on ERISA to the Secretary of Labor, Ms. Brown has been
honored by the YWCA as Woman in International Industry. She received her B. A. cum laude
from Mount Holyoke College.
